You are probably wondering how you fit Halloween & echolocation in one show, right? Well, the Cat in the Hat has done it, and if you have HULU you can watch it right now.
The Cat in the Hat: Tricks and Treats is a great Halloween show. It is very descriptive and includes silly songs which Tommy loves. The stories also involve learning about new and different people (animals in this case) and how things may seem strange to you, but they make sense for that person. The kids learn to not be afraid and are encouraged to think about the person/animal they are fearing and try to make sense of their fears.
And somehow, this same show includes a section on echolocation. This topic is fascinating to me and I’d love for Tom to learn some echolocation skills. An old O&M teacher once told me he heard Tom using sounds when entering certain rooms for echolocation purposes. I don’t really notice it myself, but I thought it was cool.
In the cartoon they meet a bat that uses echolocation to get around (as bats do…) It is a good opportunity to introduce that concept in a fun way to your child.
Happy Halloween! Check out the show and tell me what you think!
